Mit einer Länge von 256 Aminosäuren warfare es das größte bis dahin synthetisch hergestellte Protein. Nein, anabole Steroide und viele Wachstumshormone sind in Deutschland und den meisten Ländern verschreibungspflichtig. Der Kauf, Besitz oder Handel ohne ärztliche Verordnung ist strafbar und kann mit Geld- oder Freiheitsstrafen geahndet werden. Nach jedem Hormonzyklus muss der Körper wieder zur eigenen Testosteronproduktion zurückfinden.
Hohe Dosen von Wachstumshormon können manchmal die Funktion der Hypophyse und die Produktion von Somatotropin beeinträchtigen. Dies kann zu abnormalem Knochenwachstum führen und eine schwere Krankheit namens Akromegalie verursachen. Mit synthetisch hergestellten Wachstumshormonen können gerade Händler auf dem schwarzen Markt Unmengen von Geld verdienen.
Die Somatotropin-Spiegel sind währender der Pubertät erhöht und sinken mit zunehmendem Alter ab. Somatotropin, kurz GH, ist ein im Hypophysenvorderlappen gebildetes Peptidhormon, welches das Wachstum und den Stoffwechsel beeinflusst. Nahrungsergänzungsmittel werden schon seit einiger Zeit von Sportlern und Bodybuildern verwendet, aber erst in jüngster Zeit werden sie auch von der breiten Öffentlichkeit im Rahmen von Anti-Aging-Programmen eingesetzt. Die Aminosäuren, die die Freisetzung von HGH stimulieren, sind Arginin, Lysin, Ornithin, Tyrosin und Tryptophan.
